Selangor is prioritising environmental, social, and governance (ESG) principles to achieve a balance between rapid growth and sustainability, according to Jamaliah Jamaluddin, state executive councillor for public health and environment.
Speaking at the Sustainability Leadership Forum held at Dorsett Grand Subang, Jamaliah said, “Selangor is committed to leading sustainable development efforts, with a focus on ensuring a clean and resilient environment for the well-being of future generations.”
Selangor has incorporated ESG principles into all development initiatives, emphasising efforts to reduce its carbon footprint, secure a stable water supply, and adopt sustainable waste management practices. These initiatives align with the state’s commitment to addressing environmental challenges and promoting sustainable progress.
In line with the First Selangor Plan and the 12th Malaysia Plan, Selangor aims to reduce greenhouse gas emissions by 35% by 2025. Other goals include ensuring a continuous clean water supply and achieving a 15% waste recycling rate.
Highlighting the role of Menteri Besar Selangor (Incorporated) (MBI Selangor), Jamaliah said, “In Selangor’s dynamic landscape, MBI Selangor plays an important role in driving transformative economic development. By focusing on strategic planning, investment facilitation, and sustainability, MBI Selangor aims to position the state as a rapidly growing economic hub.”
She also noted that MBI Selangor has played a key role in establishing the Selangor Climate Change Adaptation Centre. The centre is expected to spearhead green initiatives statewide and develop critical climate change adaptation and mitigation measures.
Selangor’s efforts reflect its vision of becoming a catalyst for sustainability, attracting investments, creating job opportunities, and enhancing the quality of life for its residents.
